30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS -- DAY2

"Can We Go Now?"          Acrylic
When our old dog, Missy passed away, we didn't think there would ever be another dog for us.  We mourned for several months and the quiet house just begged for another pet to love.  We went to our local animal shelter, "just to look".  The noise of hundreds of barking dogs was overwhelming and we were just about to leave when we came upon one medium sized black dog who just looked up at us with her beautiful eyes.  Not a bark came out of her and my husband said -- "that's the one".  Leesa (the shelter's name) or Lee-Lee as we call her most often has proved to be a funny, smart, precious companion whose biggest joy is going anywhere my husband goes.  We will never forget Missy, but somehow I think she would approve.

  1. Your story touched my heart, as we have two aging dogs and I can't imagine a household without a dog - just enjoying them while they are here. Your LeeLee must be the perfect housedog - she showed you her guarantee in the shelter, I think. Missy lives on in her soul, you just know it.

  2. Pattie, Leesa is far from perfect -- now that she's secure she does her share of barking but I so agree with you that Missy shines through her eyes now and then. Thank you to a fellow dog lover for understanding.

  3. Love this painting! I know that "look."
    We, too, have a shelter dog who came with some issues, but we have never regretted making him part of our family. He is now 13 & is starting to mellow :}

  4. Missy would absolutely approve that you adopted a shelter dog.
