30 PAINTINGS IN 30 DAYS - DAY 19

When sculptors create a piece they can use one of two methods -- additive or subtractive.  If you take separate parts and weld them together or nail them or glue them you are adding parts to create the finished work.  If you take clay, wood or stone and carve or chisel it you are removing parts of the whole to create a finished work.  When creating a 2-dimensional work, you can do the same thing.  For this painting, Mellow Bloom, I first painted a thin dark under painting and then removed some of the paint to create the lighter areas of the painting.  This provided a road map of the finished painting for me to follow with additional colors.

Speaking of colors, thank you to everyone who "posted a palette" for me to use in the remainder of the 30 days.  Check back tomorrow for the first of these paintings.
